How to read this guide

What every result means

Screening and measurement

The platform organizes visible evidence and repeatable measurements. It does not diagnose a medical or dental condition.

Evidence paths vary by tool

When a workflow produces overlays, per-photo findings, settings, or confidence notes, those details remain visible for review. Other tools rely on user-entered ratings or structured records.

Consistency matters

Lighting, angle, focus, crop, camera distance, magnification, and styling can change what a photo appears to show.

Your account, your controls

Plan-based storage is scoped to the signed-in user, with export and deletion controls available in account settings.

Photo-based screening

Visible pattern and condition screening

These tools examine ordinary or close-up photographs for visible patterns. They organize what can be seen in an image, but they cannot determine a biological cause or make a diagnosis.

A fast entry point for hair or scalp images. The user chooses a broad head-view or close scalp-view path, and an image classifier checks whether the selected mode matches the upload.

What you provide

One JPEG, PNG, WebP, or supported phone image. A centered full-head photo supports pattern screening, while a sharp close-up supports scalp and follicle observations.

  • A concise visual assessment with the most relevant visible findings
  • Pattern or scalp observations appropriate to the detected photo type
  • Image-quality notes, confidence context, urgency language, and a screening disclaimer

Important limitations

One photograph is a snapshot. Styling, wet hair, flash, camera distance, and an unusual angle can change the apparent density or scalp visibility. A quick result should be treated as a prompt for consistent follow-up, not as proof of change.

Technical processing details
  1. The request performs image validation and safety checks before analysis. A classifier checks macro versus general framing and can recommend switching modes so a close scalp image is not interpreted as if it were a full hairline view.
  2. A structured vision response separates visible observations, image-quality concerns, pattern estimates, confidence, and follow-up guidance. The result is normalized before it reaches the interface so missing or malformed fields do not become invented measurements.

Storage and control

History saving and retention depend on the active plan. The interface identifies results that are available only for the current session.

Scalp Scan

Analyzes one or more scalp photographs for visible hair-loss pattern, scalp condition, hairline and crown observations, and review priority.

Best suited for

A structured screening report from a hairline, crown, part-line, or close scalp image, especially when several angles need one combined review.

What you provide

Up to the number of photographs allowed by the plan, plus optional age and sex context used to calibrate pattern-scale language. Even lighting and a sharp view of the region of interest matter more than raw megapixel count.

What the result contains

  • Per-photo findings with angle, pattern, priority, and confidence context
  • An overall review that explains where multiple views agree or disagree
  • Follow-up chat grounded in the current scan results when plan access allows it

Important limitations

Apparent scalp exposure is not a calibrated hair count. Age and sex can improve scale selection, but they do not turn a photo into a clinical examination. Inflammation, scarring, infection, and sudden shedding require professional assessment.

Technical processing details
  1. Each image is analyzed independently so the report can preserve which observation came from which angle. A synthesis step then compares agreements and conflicts across the images instead of averaging every view into one opaque answer.
  2. Preflight checks estimate brightness and sharpness. The result schema includes visible pattern, stage language where appropriate, hairline and crown notes, urgency, confidence, red flags, and recommendations.

Storage and control

Saved scans are associated with the user account when the plan supports history. Session-only results are labelled before the user leaves the page.

Spot Analysis

Available

Finds bright or visually distinct connected regions in a scalp image and quantifies how much of the selected frame they occupy.

Best suited for

Exploring reflective areas, visible scalp, flakes, sebum-like shine, or other high-contrast regions while retaining manual control over sensitivity.

What you provide

A focused scalp image or a cropped region of interest. The user can adjust the brightness threshold and minimum connected-blob size to match the capture.

What the result contains

  • Detected-region count and percentage coverage
  • A toggleable overlay that shows exactly which pixels contributed to the calculation
  • Sensitivity settings, crop controls, saved result cards, and optional AI interpretation

Important limitations

Brightness is not a diagnosis. Flash glare, pale hair, exposed scalp, white flakes, and reflective product can all cross the same threshold. Comparisons are most meaningful when the crop, lighting, and settings are repeated.

Technical processing details
  1. The browser converts pixels to luminance, marks candidates above the selected threshold, and groups adjacent pixels with connected-component analysis. Components below the minimum size are removed as noise.
  2. The tool counts retained regions and derives its displayed coverage metric from the selected pixels and analyzed area. The overlay is therefore a reproducible image-processing result, while the AI summary is a separate interpretive layer.

Storage and control

The original or cropped image, numeric settings, and result can be saved to the user history subject to plan limits.

Shape of Loss

Beta

Builds a personalized spatial map from four guided head views, then projects visible hair and scalp evidence onto a continuous anatomical surface.

Understanding where visible coverage is concentrated and comparing the shape of coverage across repeated four-view scans.

What you provide

A complete front, left profile, right profile, and top view with the full head visible. Consistent lighting, plain contrast around the outline, and matching capture distance improve the fit.

What the result contains

  • Interactive realistic and loss-intensity views of the fitted surface
  • Derived stage, affected-area estimate, confidence, regional distribution, and rationale
  • Side-by-side, difference-map, and timeline comparison after two or more saved scans

Important limitations

This is not photogrammetry and does not recover hidden anatomy. Rear geometry and fine facial relief are inferred. Hair viability, scarring, and cause cannot be established from the surface map, and a patterned background can reduce silhouette quality.

Technical processing details
  1. The browser isolates measured head silhouettes, trims attached shoulders, segments visible hair and scalp, and normalizes all four views. Those silhouettes constrain an anatomical head surface rather than selecting a generic preset.
  2. View-facing projection maps photographed color and coverage only onto surface regions seen by each camera. A normalized coverage field supports regional metrics, pattern-template comparison, and a derived Norwood estimate. Optional worker reconstruction can add a denser point surface without blocking the main analysis.
  3. Saved scans use a bounded coverage grid and packed binary silhouettes so comparisons can calculate regional and net change without resending the original analysis request.

Storage and control

Saved records can include the four source photos, normalized coverage, metrics, and compact silhouettes. Save limits are enforced per plan.

Self Assessment

Available

Uses an uploaded photo as a visual reference while the user records repeatable condition categories, severity ratings, and notes.

Best suited for

One or more reference photos to enter the workflow, selected condition categories, a severity level for each category, optional notes, and the assessment date.

What the result contains

  • A 0 to 100 self-reported scalp-health score with category breakdown
  • Saved notes, severity labels, assessment date, and previous assessment reports
  • An optional explanation of what the selected pattern may be worth discussing with a professional

Important limitations

The score measures the entered ratings, not the pixels or disease activity. Two people can rate the same image differently. Saved assessment documents do not currently retain a direct association to the reference photo.

Technical processing details
  1. The tool applies a transparent weighted score to the user-selected severity levels. Minimal ratings carry no penalty, and increasing severity lowers the composite score in a predictable way.
  2. Optional AI chat receives the structured ratings and, on the first message, a small version of the active session image when available. It can organize questions and next steps, but it does not replace the user-entered ratings.

Storage and control

Assessment ratings and notes can be saved to the account and deleted from the assessment history. A photo uploaded from the device may also be added to the separate gallery flow.

Mouth Scan

Provides general oral screening plus focused modes for tongue findings and visible tooth or tartar regions.

Organizing visible oral-hygiene observations and deciding what to photograph or ask about at a dental visit.

What you provide

One or more clear mouth photographs selected for general, tongue, or teeth-focused analysis. The region must be visible and in focus without filters.

What the result contains

  • Mode-specific visual observations and an overall oral review
  • Concern and urgency language with reasons and quality caveats
  • Optional marked regions and follow-up questions grounded in the report

Important limitations

A phone photo cannot assess probing depth, cavities between teeth, bone, bite, or pathology below the surface. Pain, bleeding, swelling, ulcers that persist, trauma, or rapid change should be assessed by a dentist or doctor.

Technical processing details
  1. Each photo is checked and analyzed for the selected mode. Structured fields separate visible observations, concern level, area, urgency, reasoning, and image limitations.
  2. Focused spot processing can mark localized regions, while synthesis combines multiple images into an overall review. Follow-up chat is tied to the saved report context.

Storage and control

Reports, images, and chat can be saved to the signed-in account according to plan and retention settings.

Calibrated and close-up tools

Hair and follicle measurement

These tools work with magnified scalp images or explicit calibration. Their numbers are more sensitive to field of view, optics, segmentation quality, and sampling than broad phone-photo screening.

  • Terminal, intermediate, and vellus-style distributions with ratio context
  • Screening observations, baseline comparison, and saved session history

Important limitations

A wrong field of view scales every physical measurement. Hair overlap, blur, oil, low contrast, and an unrepresentative scalp zone can change counts or width estimates. Values are screening measurements from imagery, not histology or a laboratory phototrichogram.

Technical processing details
  1. The guided session can hold several calibrated captures, while the immediate structured analysis is driven by the first image in the current workflow. Deterministic calibration utilities normalize returned width samples, reject implausible values, and derive comparable physical metrics.
  2. Counts, terminal and thinner-hair groups, ratios, density estimates, diameter variation, spot and scalp-condition observations are assembled into one session. Calibration confidence remains visible so a fallback estimate is not presented as a direct measurement.

Storage and control

Completed sessions can retain the source image, calibration, returned detections, metrics, and analysis in the user history. The current API does not return an annotated overlay image.

Hair Thickness

Available

A manual measurement workspace for placing calipers across visible hair shafts and converting pixel widths to micrometers.

Best suited for

Users who want to inspect the actual measurement anchors, correct them, and document repeated shaft-width samples instead of accepting an opaque average.

What you provide

One or more magnified scalp images plus magnification or a known horizontal field of view. EXIF details are read when present to help identify capture inconsistencies.

What the result contains

  • Per-caliper width in micrometers, average width, and reference classification
  • Editable hair-segment groups, overlays, crop, zoom, pan, and downloadable annotated images
  • Saved reports with calibration, measurements, groups, notes, and optional AI discussion

Important limitations

The tool measures the visible image width at the chosen line. Focus, edge blur, strand angle, compression, and calibration dominate accuracy. Ethnic reference profiles provide context but do not diagnose miniaturization.

Technical processing details
  1. Pixel distance is converted through the active calibration. Plausibility checks warn when the physical width is unusually low or high and may suggest a calibration correction when the selected mode supports it.
  2. Measurements can be grouped into hair segments. Automatic grouping uses direction, proximity, and perpendicular alignment, while every anchor and group remains manually editable.

Storage and control

Measurements and reports are saved only when requested and within the plan’s session allowance. A fresh device-selected source image can be uploaded to the separate Gallery flow as soon as it is selected, even before the measurement report is saved.

Follicle Type Detection

Detects visible follicular units and estimates how many hair shafts emerge from each observed unit.

Important limitations

Crossing hairs, cropped shafts, scale, oil, crust, shadow, and low focus can merge or split apparent units. The output describes visible image structures and does not establish follicle viability or donor suitability.

Technical processing details
  1. The detector proposes localized regions with confidence scores. Post-processing removes weak or overlapping candidates and groups results by the predicted number of visible hairs in the unit.
  2. The image overlay keeps each accepted detection spatially traceable, which makes false positives and missed units reviewable instead of hiding them behind a summary count.

Storage and control

Accepted analyses can be saved with the source image and structured detections under the user account.

Trichoscopy Analysis

Important limitations

This tool is explicitly in development. Automated polygons can miss fine, pale, overlapping, or blurred hairs. Treat all measurements as experimental screening values and verify important concerns professionally.

Technical processing details
  1. A remote segmentation model returns polygons for visible hairs. Robust geometry estimates cross-sectional widths while reducing the influence of spikes and malformed polygon vertices.
  2. When segmentation is unavailable, the system can preserve other screening observations but marks the measurement path as unavailable or low confidence. The report records that distinction rather than silently substituting a precise value.

Storage and control

Analyses and chat can be saved within Pro history allowances and deleted from the account.

Keratin Analysis

Important limitations

Sebum, scale, glare, debris, and keratin can look similar in a photograph. Detection labels are experimental and cannot identify an infection, inflammatory disorder, or histologic material.

Technical processing details
  1. The object detector runs with fixed confidence and overlap settings and produces candidate boxes, labels, and confidence values. The current interface does not expose those thresholds as user controls.
  2. Detection count, average confidence, and class counts are shown alongside an AI assessment. The deterministic detections and the interpretive text remain separate.

Storage and control

Intro, Basic, and Pro users currently pass the route gate, and saving is subject to the active plan’s analysis allowance. Free access is locked.

Longitudinal records

Consistent capture and change over time

Tracking tools preserve dates, zones, and comparable views. Their value comes from reducing capture variation before interpreting a difference as biological change.

Important limitations

A diary does not normalize every difference. Hair length, styling, wetness, lighting, posture, and camera distance should be kept as stable as possible.

Technical processing details
  1. The diary stores capture metadata and session grouping rather than pretending that any two photographs are automatically comparable.
  2. Saved entries can feed later workflows, including Shape of Loss. Higher plans can create a timeline video from the sequence.

Storage and control

Diary images are stored in the user account under the active plan’s upload and retention rules.

Scalp Progression

Available

Organizes dated scalp photos into a timeline and analyzes visible severity, pattern, hairline, crown, urgency, and directional change.

Important limitations

Trend logic cannot fully correct inconsistent capture. A change in flash, parting, hair length, or camera distance may exceed the real change being tracked. The trend is a screening signal, not a rate of biological hair loss.

Technical processing details
  1. Each photo keeps its own structured analysis. Timeline logic converts stage, severity, crown, hairline, and urgency signals into a cautious directional trend only when there is enough comparable history.
  2. Calendar and timeline views preserve chronology. Reports can show the earliest and latest evidence, changes in structured fields, and the most recent AI note.

Storage and control

Progression requires saved dated photos. Basic and Pro plans have different photo caps, and users can delete individual images or the full progression set.

Important limitations

Calendar spacing records when images were assigned, not whether the capture conditions were equivalent or whether a treatment caused a change.

Technical processing details
  1. Calendar grouping uses the stored photo date and user timezone presentation. Date editing changes organization metadata without altering the original pixels.
  2. Selecting a day exposes its associated photos in the calendar, where the user can open a lightbox, review source metadata, or edit the assigned date.

Storage and control

The calendar reads the user’s existing photo records. It does not create a second copy of every image.

Synthesis and visualization

Planning, product context, and simulation

These tools combine saved information or generate educational visualizations. They support organization and discussion, but they do not prescribe treatment or predict an individual medical outcome.

Important limitations

The plan inherits uncertainty from every source record and may contain AI errors. Medication, procedure, supplement, and diagnosis decisions require a qualified clinician who can review history, examination, contraindications, and testing.

Technical processing details
  1. The planner builds a bounded context from the user’s own history, prioritizing recent and relevant records rather than exposing an unlimited raw account dump to the model. Newly added photos run through the Scalp Scan workflow and its combined review is added to planner context.
  2. AI synthesis proposes educational steps and questions. The protocol workspace remains user-editable so generated text is never treated as an immutable prescription.

Storage and control

Plans, protocols, notes, and saved chat belong to the signed-in user and can be exported or deleted through account controls.

Hair Porosity Test

Important limitations

The float test is influenced by residue, strand diameter, trapped air, water conditions, and user observation. It is an at-home estimate, not a direct measurement of cuticle structure.

Technical processing details
  1. The manual path maps floating, suspended, or quickly sinking behavior to a porosity band. The photo path requests an image interpretation with a confidence score, but the user’s confirmed band is what gets saved.
  2. The saved record can include method, selected band, float behavior, photo confidence, notes, and a photo only when the user chooses to retain it.

Storage and control

Porosity records can be saved within the daily plan allowance. The test photo is retained only when the user opts in; otherwise the saved record keeps the result without the image.

Product Match

Normalizes a cosmetic product ingredient list and scores its likely fit against a selected or recently saved hair-porosity band.

  • Benefits, cautions, helpful ingredients, caution ingredients, and usage guidance when the plan includes them
  • Normalized ingredient list, optional detailed ingredient notes, and a saved product shelf

Important limitations

An ingredient list does not reveal concentration, formulation behavior, contamination, allergy risk, or how a product performs on every person. OCR mistakes must be corrected before relying on the score.

Technical processing details
  1. Optical character recognition can extract label text from a photo. The product-match route then normalizes INCI names, tracks which ingredients were recognized, and applies structured scoring rules based on porosity, product type, and ingredient roles.
  2. Plan depth controls how much of the explanation is returned. Higher tiers can receive helpful and caution ingredient lists, usage guidance, or per-ingredient notes; the score remains educational rather than a safety clearance.

Storage and control

Products can be saved to the account within the active daily limit. A scanned label photo is saved only with user consent; otherwise the shelf keeps the entered text and result.

Transplant Simulator

Creates an educational before-and-after visualization based on a selected target Norwood level while trying to preserve the original face and background.

Important limitations

The generated image is not a surgical plan or outcome prediction. It does not model donor supply, graft survival, hair caliber, curl, scarring, future loss, surgeon technique, or medical eligibility.

Technical processing details
  1. A structured vision pass estimates the visible pattern and confidence. The full image is then sent to image generation with text instructions to change only the hair and preserve the face, expression, ears, skin, neck, and background. There is no pixel mask that technically locks non-hair regions.
  2. The output and original remain available together so the visualization can be checked against the source. Saved records preserve current and target stages as context.

Storage and control

Original and generated images can be saved within Pro simulation and history limits and removed by the user.

Important limitations

Saved AI text can contain mistakes and should not be treated as medical advice. Chat history preserves what was said, not proof that the answer was correct.

Technical processing details
  1. History is queried by authenticated user ownership and tool context. Preview and detail views separate conversations from different tools and sessions.
  2. Retention windows and maximum saved counts are enforced from the active subscription tier.

Storage and control

Only conversations the product saves under the user account appear here. Users can delete history, and plan-based retention may remove older conversations.

Important limitations

This is not a medical consultation. It cannot diagnose, prescribe, clear a procedure, or replace a licensed clinician. Urgent symptoms require appropriate local medical care.

Technical processing details
  1. Booking claims an available slot transactionally so the same time is not assigned twice. The user can view waiting or in-progress status while service staff manage consultation-status updates.
  2. The service is educational and product-oriented. It is intentionally separated from medical diagnosis, prescribing, or emergency care.

Storage and control

Booking details, topic, status, and service notes are stored with account context. Current account-deletion logic removes direct identity fields from completed consultation logs but can retain free-text service and audit records.

  1. The API verifies the user token, validates the request fields, and records a support request with the account context needed to respond.
  2. Medical concerns are kept out of the support workflow and directed to an appropriate healthcare professional.

The submitted request is stored with the authenticated account and handled under the privacy policy.

  • Downloadable export of the collections supported by the current export route
  • Bulk deletion for the displayed data categories and a permanent account-deletion control
  • Subscription management and current-plan status

Important limitations

Permanent deletion is intentionally destructive and may not be reversible. Current export and deletion coverage does not include every auxiliary product collection or every retained consultation, community, security, billing, and audit record. Contact support when a record is not covered by the displayed controls.

Technical processing details
  1. Export requests gather supported user-owned records into a portable response, with a current cap of 500 documents per included collection. Deletion endpoints verify identity and process the categories shown in account settings.
  2. Subscription actions such as pause, downgrade, cancel, or portal access use dedicated server routes and show the resulting effective access state.

Storage and control

This service manages the account’s stored data rather than creating a new analysis record.

Use the tools to prepare better questions

A repeated, clearly captured record can make a professional conversation more specific. It still cannot replace an examination, medical history, laboratory work, imaging, or clinical judgment.
